On Wednesday, April 18th, the home of a Barrett Station Place resident was the target of a burglary. Kristine and Ivo Vukomanovic of 2517 Hidden Meadow Lane had their house looted during an apparent daytime break-in.
Among the missing items are the couple's television, a computer, their DVD collection, a pair of jeans belonging to Ivo, and two adult soccer jerseys. Jewelry and other items were left untouched. No formal suspects have been announced, but the Vukomanovic's believe they have a solid lead on who may have committed the crime.
Two teenagers going door to door under the guise of selling coupon books had recently visited the Vukomanovic home. They were peering inside while Kristine and Ivo watched TV. A knock on the door was answered, and the two teens chatted with the couple about the television and Ivo's background in soccer. Coincidentally or not, most of the missing items were discussed at that meeting. The police have descriptions of the teens, and plan to investigate their involvement further.
The neighborhood association contacted the police in relation to this incident and we were given the name of our neighborhood watch officer: Dustin Poncin (636) 256-7075. We were informed that we could contact Dustin to arrange neighborhood meetings and receive additional support and prevention materials from the program. We were also warned of the high volume of daytime crimes with respect to home break-ins. The officer urged us to keep all doors to our homes and vehicles locked at all times. He said that these robberies happen far more often than the average citizen would ever believe. To learn more and stay prepared, we will attempt to include a presentation from a neighborhood watch officer at our next neighborhood meeting.
In the meantime, the Vukomanovic's are happily moving forward, and they've taken numerous steps to prevent this from happening in the future. However, there is one stolen item they would like returned: Their Wedding Video. The thieves inadvertently (we hope) took this DVD along with their complete collection. Catching the thieves could mean the return of this keepsake, so please come forward if you can help.
Any resident with information about the burglary or the two teen boys, is asked to contact us, the police, or the Vukomanovic's at once.
