BARRETT STATION ROAD

ST. LOUIS COUNTY PROJECT NO. AR-854

FAU Project No. STP 4919(601)

INITIAL PROJECT UPDATE LETTER

Dear Property Owner:

We would like to keep you informed of the details and progress of the Barrett Station Road

improvement project by providing the following:

Barrett Station Road, starting at the intersection of Dougherty Ferry Road and continuing north

approximately 1.3 miles to Barrett Parkway will be improved under a St. Louis County Department

of Highways & Traffic contract. The new roadway will consist of three lanes of traffic, (one

northbound lane, one southbound lane, and a two-way continuous center left turn lane), enclosed

storm sewer drainage, and sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.  The improvements include

new concrete pavement, sewers, box culvert replacement, signals, and other incidental items.  The

new roadway will be elevated out of the 100 year flood plain and realigned to improve the sight

distance throughout the project. In addition the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District’s Barrett

Station Sanitary Relief (MSD Project No. 96026) is included in our work and replaces

approximately 2,065 feet of sanitary sewer main located beneath the new northbound lane of

Barrett Station Road.

OVERALL STATUS:

The general contractor for the project is Gershenson Construction Company, Inc.  The contract

amount is $6,070,091.15.  Work is scheduled to begin in July 2009. The project is expected to take

approximately eighteen months to complete, however, complexities of the project phasing, utility

conflicts, unforeseen circumstances and adverse weather conditions could delay the completion

date.

Laclede Gas, Missouri-American Water, AmerenUE, AT&T and Charter Communications all have

facilities (underground as well as overhead) that are in conflict with the planned improvements and

will require relocation.  St. Louis County engineers have been and will continue meeting regularly

with the contractor and each of the utilities to coordinate their work so as to create an efficient

construction schedule.

In order to expedite the completion of the project, the contractor will close Barrett Station Road to

traffic for a maximum of ninety (90) calendar days from Fairoyal Drive north to Barrett Office Drive.

During this timeframe the contractor will remove and replace a concrete box culvert and

reconstruct approximately 800 feet of roadway in this area. A detour route will be marked for

motorists to use during the closure. The scheduling of the road closure is still to be determined and

is dependent on the Missouri-American Water Company completing relocation of their water main

at the box culvert.  Except for the previously mentioned 90 day road closure period, Barrett Station

Road will remain open to two way traffic during construction.

WORK ANTICIPATED FOR JULY:

Laclede Gas, AT&T and Missouri-American Water Company will continue with their relocation

work.  AmerenUE will start their relocation work by late June or early July.
